Trewethett Farm Caravan Club Site, Cornwall Saturday 19th September - Saturday 26th September 2015
Our much awaited week in Cornwall arrived, we travelled to Trewethett Farm Caravan Club site between Boscastle and Tintagel. The site is right on the coastal path with fantastic views over the sea. The pitches are arranged in tiers, each with a front row and a back row. Each back row pitch is spaced so that you look through a gap between caravans to the sea rather that at the caravan in front of you. The front row pitches are very popular but the site allows you to move pitch. When you see a vacant pitch that you would like to move to you put a marker on it, like a chair or an aqua roll and move! You just need to let reception know so that they have an idea of where everyone is. We chose a second row pitch as all the front row was full.
We had arrived on site to find that the antifreeze had leaked from the holding tank in the wardrobe and had soaked the linen bag that is used for dirty washing. The inside of the cupboard was splashed with blue as was the underside of the carpet in the bathroom. We rang Webbs who were unable to explain why this might have happened. They suggested we top up the system with water which we did. The heating is working fine although the weather is warm enough not to need it on. We can't work out where it came from unless it is escaping from the breather tube.
Saturday night the sunset was spectacular.
Sunday we drove into Boscastle it was very busy with people enjoying the good weather. We walked down to the harbour, you can see which properties in the village were damaged by the floods in 2004 as they have new roofs.
We got talking to a couple Jill and Rob from Yorkshire who are pitched infront of us, they have given up their jobs, sold their house and are travelling round the country. They have been on the road since earlier this year and have travelled through England and Wales and are now heading down one side of Cornwall and back up the other.
Sunday evening bad weather was forecast overnight so we decided to top up with water and empty the waste just in case. We spotted a vacant pitch on the front row and decided to move, it was dark by the time we finished pitching.

The
rain came in overnight as forecast but had dried up by 10am. It is
great to sit in a cosy caravan and watch the rain come in over the sea.
We may not feel like this if the weather gets very rough!
Monday we drove up the coast to Bude to visit a caravan dealer there. On our journey South we had a problem with the jockey wheel working loose from its clamp and dragging on the road, it made a horrendous noise and of course we are concerned about what damage it might cause if this happens regularly. We bought a hook and a length of wire so that we can secure the jockey wheel. There will be enough slack to enable the jockey wheel to do its job if it needs to but if the clamp works loose the wheel will not hit the floor. Monday afternoon we went to Tintagel a place Gary had visited as a child and had his photo taken outside of the post office which is now owned by the National Trust.
We took a photo of him outside the Post Office for old times sake. After a long day driving we decided to visit the Castle another day and headed back the the site.
Monday night was stormy, the van got blown about we woke up several times but went back to sleep easily if we had been in a tent it would have been a very different story ......
Tuesday we made our way to Padstow, somewhere we have visited many times over the years. We had plans to visit Rick Stein's cafe for cake and coffee. We found a parking space at the top carpark and walked down in to town. After a wander round the narrow roads of Padstow we found the Cafe and were lucky enough to get a table, it was nearly lunch time. We decided on lunch rather than a coffee and cake. Well, it would have been rude not to.
Between us we enjoyed mackerel salad, salt & pepper prawns, salmon, hake with mushy peas, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake finished with coffee and then rushed back to the car park (uphill!) so we didn't outstay our parking. The food was really fabulous and well worth the visit.
Back on site Jill and Rob popped in for coffee as they will be leaving tomorrow to continue their journey South.
Feeling the need to soak up more TV stars we decided to visit Port Isaac which is where Doc Martin is filmed. The car park is at the top of town and you walk in. We found a space in the car park although it was very busy, then we noticed the queue for the parking ticket machine it was very long, we decided we would leave our visit for another day and left the car park. We drove on to Polzeath which we really liked we enjoyed a meal on a roof top cafe overlooking the beach and the sea. After lunch we drove to Rock where we caught the ferry over to Padstow and walked round the narrow lanes we didn't manage to do the day before.
Thursday we went to Newquay. We had a wander down the High Street which is sadly looking a little worn, from here we went on to Watergate Bay but were too late for lunch at
Jamie Oliver's restaurant It rained really heavilly while we were here and there is no where apart from the hotel and restaurants to get out of the rain. We got soaked to the skin.

Friday we followed the coastal path in front of the campsite towards Tintagel down to a ravine we turned away from the coast and followed the path inland to an old derelict mill which is looked after by the National Trust there were bronze age carvings in the rock which were fascinating. We retraced our steps back to the campsite and spent the rest of the day relaxing.
Saturday morning we packed up and headed home.
