Exebridge Lakeside Caravan Club Site Friday 29th April - Monday 2nd May 2016 (May Day)
Friday night on a Bank holiday weekend is not a good idea for a speedy getaway. The M4 and M5 had traffic jams and it took us 3 hours to get to Exebridge Lakes. We awoke to a hard frost on Saturday morning, -4 according to our weather station, after breakfast we drove into Dulverton to buy some pies, The farmers market was on as well with lots of tasty things to eat on offer as well as local craft people selling their wares. I was very taken with the work of a local artist Jessamy Keilly who was displaying some of her work. I particularly liked the Exmoor stags they were very simple pictures in black ink. We bought our pies and headed back to the caravan we spent the afternoon sleeping and reading, we are both tired. Sunday we went to meet with the couple we had met in Cornwall last year. They have found a house in Minehead that they are going to buy. We all had lunch at the Black Venus in Challacombe, a favourite pub of ours. We talked about going back to Trewethett Farm in Cornwall where we all first met as we are booked in for a return visit in July. Sunday afternoon we drove to Bampton a small town not far from Exebridge, we had never been before. The town is spread out with a main street and a small shopping centre that had all the necessary shops: a butcher, a baker, a small supermarket as well as a couple of restaurants and gift type shops, everything was closed as it was Sunday but it would be worth a visit when the shops are open.
We really like Exebridge lakeside as a site, it is well set out with fantastic views towards Exmoor. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby.
Our journey home on Bank holiday Monday was less stressful than our journey to site.
