Trewethett Farm Caravan Club Site, Tintagel Cornwall Saturday 20th August - Monday 29th August 2016

High winds were forecast for the weekend so we took a very leisurely trip to Trewethett Farm Caravan Club site on the coast of Cornwall.  This was to be our second trip to this site and we had lots planned for visits in the area.  On arrival all the hardstandings were taken our first choice of grass pitch was very marshy underfoot and so we moved up the hill to the top of the site.  We needed to use some wood to helps us to get level but the views out to sea were stupendous when you could see past the rain!

Overnight the winds were very strong with speeds of over 40mph reported, the van rocked which was unsettling but the noise made by the Caravanstore canopy in its bag lifting and banging against the side of the caravan made for very little sleep.  Sunday morning the wind dropped but the early sunshine soon disappeared, we spent the morning resting after our sleepless night.  We drove into Tintagel for some milk, on our return to the site we spotted a front row pitch and so moved the van down the hill onto a hardstanding pitch. The pitch was overlooking the coastal path with views of the beach and sea.  It felt much more secure and sheltered after being on the hill top.

Shortly after we had settled ourselves in a classic VW Camper arrived and pitched next to us. The van, known as Frank has been restored and has original fittings, it looks very smart.

On Monday we went to Padstow for lunch at Rick Steins cafe to celebrate our wedding anniversary, very tasty food as always and a welcoming atmosphere make this a favourite for us.

The weather improved further in the the afternoon back at the site and we spent the time sitting outside enjoying the view, we watched the sun set over the sea which was just magical.

Tuesday we visited Cornwall at War on the airfield in Davidstow,  a small museum with lots of small artefacts there has been some restoration of some of the airfield buildings.  There is lots to see here and a very enjoyable few hours was spent looking at the exhibits finding out about the airfield and reading the stories of the restoration .

Wednesday we needed to catch up on our domestic chores including food shopping, after a busy morning we spent the afternoon at the site, the weather was not so good, very little sunshine although warm.

Thursday we went into Boscastle and walked out along the harbour, we found a spot to sit on the headland and watched a couple of fishermen fishing from the rocks, often the simplest of things bring the most pleasure.  On our way back up the harbour we met a young family fishing for crabs with nets they had made out the net bags used for adding washing powder tablets to washing machines which they had filled with 3 day old bacon (a bit smelly to say the least).  They reported to have been very successful with their crabbing over the past few days and although we didn't see any crabs taking the bait there were plenty of small fish nibbling at the bags.  We called into a shop at the top of the harbour and bought some new coasters to use in the caravan.
Our neigboour Frank the VW camper left for home today with arrangements made to keep in touch.

Friday, some neighbours from home who were holidaying in Bodmin contacted us and arrived to spend the day with us, we walked along a short distance of the coastal path before returning to the caravan for lunch and spent the afternoon sitting in the sun catching up.  In the evening a motorhome pitched up next to us, a family with 2 young boys who were fascinated by our caravan and in particular the motor mover.

Saturday and the start of the Bank Holiday weekend we went to Wadebridge where the annual folk festival was in full swing, the atmosphere was lovely with lots of bands playing in the streets and people dancing.  We enjoyed strolling around listening to and watching the musicians, a huge amount of talent is such a small place

Sunday morning we awoke to rain, when it dried up we walked down the coastal path to Rocky Valley the ruined mill with its carvings on the stones and the small waterfalls make this a pleasant walk.

Monday we were on our way home, we had decided to leave early on the as it was a bank holiday we hitched up as quietly as possible and were soon on our way.
